Francesco Totti is having second thoughts over his decision to retire from international football following Italy's World Cup final victory over France.
Earlier this summer, Totti announced his intention to step down from international duty at the end of the tournament to spend more time with his family But the 29-year-old admits he is now considering a change of heart after the Azzurri`s stunning success in Germany.
"How can I leave the national team right now?" said Totti, who made his senior international debut in 2000 and has since won over 50 caps. "Of course, it will be beautiful to leave on a high having been crowned world champions.I will however, reflect in the next few days."
He added: "At the moment it's 50-50."
Totti was a major doubt to even figure in the World Cup after suffering a serious leg injury back in February.
But he made a remarkable recovery to earn a call up into Lippi`s squad and scored the decisive stoppage-time winner over Australia in the last 16.
And despite being taken off against France in the final, Totti was delighted to play his part in helping Italy win their fourth World Cup.
He added: "For me, the most beautiful thing is to have made it here considering the injury I had.
"I give myself a seven out of 10 but I do give the team 10 out of 10. This team has been fantastic, as a group we have been able to achieve something great." |
