Marcello Lippi will consider his Italy future over the coming days - but all the indications suggest he will stay on after leading the Azzurri to World Cup glory on Sunday night.
Lippi's men claimed the trophy in Berlin after seeing off France in a penalty shoot-out. There has been speculation Lippi may opt to bow out at the top but the former Juventus boss is determined to carry on.
He said: "To arrive at the summit is both beautiful and rewarding. It is beautiful to win important titles and when you reach the top, you realise how hard it was to get there and how fantastic it would be to discover new emotions and incentives. Some people would maybe decide to stop there, but I intend to continue my work."
He added: "I will talk about that (my future) on Tuesday with (FIGC vice-president) Giancarlo Abete and (FIGC commissioner Guido) Rossi.
"I still intend to do my work. This squad can also do well at the European Championships, but the players need to be saved from their own clubs."
As for their success in Germany, Lippi was honest enough to admit better teams than his had lifted the game's ultimate prize.
"I don't believe one World Cup can be compared to another," he added.
"There have been World Cups when one extraordinary team has been clearly better than all the others, and the example of Brazil springs to mind, but there have been several others where a side has done a little less to win, like we did." |
