England are Hungry for Success
Steven Gerrard celebrates scoring in England's match against Hungary
England’s victory over Hungary last night has whetted everyone’s appetite for the World Cup and no doubt England’s second half performance will have excited supporters of Sven’s boys. There will be plenty of football fans tempted today by the 7/1 on offer from bookies for England to win the World Cup.

However it seems that one England player in particular caught everyone’s eye at Old Trafford – and we don’t mean Peter Crouch’s electrifying robotic dance!

Midfield dynamo Steven Gerrard was sent out to play a new role for England last night and it’s alerted football fans to a whole new world of possibilities around the Liverpool star.

The popular Liverpool midfielder took to his new role in the England line-up playing behind Michael Owen like only a player of his class can, cementing his performance with England’s first goal of the night. And punters have responded to clamour for the 40/1 on offer on Gerrard winning the World Cup Golden Boot for top scorer.

In fact Gerrard is now Paddy Power’s fourth most popular bet in this market with only Brazilian strikers Adrian and Ronaldo (10/1) and Italian striker Luca Toni (20/1) having had more bets placed on them to be top scorer so far.

Steven Gerrard is now also one of the leading contenders to be voted Player of the Tournament at 18/1 with only the likes of Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry and Michael Ballack ahead of him.

It could be quite a summer for the Liverpool captain.
Unlikely hero Birchall ready for England
A dream come true
Chris Birchall may not look, or sound, like the average Trinidad and Tobago international but he is playing a key role in the Caribbean islanders' World Cup adventure. After starring in their opening draw with Sweden it is England next up for the Port Vale man and he can't wait to face the country of his birth.
